In 2007, for EngageMedia, I researched and authored a report “FOSS Codecs For Online Video: Usability Uptake and Development”, with input from Andrew Lowenthal, Andrew Nicholson and the Transmission network. It was a lengthy technical review of available tools for the creation, playback and embedding of online video using FOSS codecs, and a look at the most pressing areas for development to enhance their adoption by social change video projects on the web. The report (quickly out of date given the pace at which online video technology develops) is available on the Transmission wiki.
